Destined for Greatness

Barrerra's corner stops fight in 11th
written by me!

After sporting a huge cut on his left eyebrow and receiving numerous power shots from Manny Pacquiao, Barrerra's corner, although hesitant, threw in the towel to save their fighter from further beating.

Barrerra seemed to have Pacquiao's number as he managed to keep Pacquiao at bay in the first round. By constantly moving back, the Mexican champion refused to let any Pacquiao's power shots connect. During one exchange, the Filipino got his feet tangled with Barrerra's and lost his footing. The referee saw it as a knockdown even though Manny got up even before the referee started counting.

However, it was all Pacquiao after the first round. Pacquiao's speed dazzled Barrerra in the second as the Filipino landed more punches thrown in different angles. A thunderous left hook sent Barrerra crashing down early in the third.

The Mexican tried to slow the pace down but to no avail as Pacquiao kept on connecting. Barrerra then attempted to match skill against skill as the Mexican went back to the basics. However, Pacquiao seemed to have all the answers to every Barrerra offensive. Barrera accidentally slipped near the end of the sixth.

An accidental headbutt at the start of the seventh stopped the match temporarily as Barrerra garnered a huge cut over his left eyebrow. Even though the Mexican seemed hesistant to continue the match, Barrerra, out of pride, faced Pacquiao once more. The Filipino, sensing a knockout, continued his barrage of punches that stunned Barrerra.

Pacquiao seemed unstoppable. This frustrated the Mexican so much that early in the ninth, Barrerra threw a quick punch at Pacquiao when the referee broke their clinch. The referee then deducted a point away from Barrerra making it almost mathematically impossible for the Mexican to catch up.

Pacquiao scored another knockdown on Barrerra once more despite protests from the Mexican in the eleventh.
