I'm supposed to be a yuppie now, the ones ordinary people see in places like Greenbelt in co-ed hordes all dressed up like they're going to a prom. Those people who party all night, eat in expensive places and wear thick make-up on their faces (at least for the women.) Those people who drink cocktails, wine and beer, and smoke cigarettes while loudly conversing with each other.
Then I ask myself, "where is that yuppie in me?" I have no hordes of workplace friends to speak of. I don't like staying up really late partying the night away. I despise cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. I do not like flaunting my hard-earned cash on other people's faces. I might party like once a month, but that's probably it. I'm more of a homebody person, and not the type you would see in a disco.
Another question arises, "Do I want to be that yuppie?" If I try to be one, I might probably regret it. Now I am in the position to be one, as compared to being a person looking from the outside. I'm in the same world as they are now, but I am lost.
I remember back then when I see these people in those high-end places, something churns inside me as if I am looking at a person I do not want to be ever.
This probably reflects the person that I am: an introverted, intuitive, feeling, and perspective individual. Since I have an inner core of values that guide my interactions and decisions, I want to be involved in work that contributes to both their own growth and inner development and those of others--- to have a purpose beyond my paycheck. I make a priority of clarifying my values and living in congruence with them. So I apologize for not being that flexible when it comes to schedules, especially at night.
This inner core of values probably overshadows the fact that I am also a born martyr. I recognize and honor the emotional and psychological needs of others, even when others may not have recognized or expressed my own needs.
I am adaptable and flexible until something violates my inner values. When this happens, I stop adapting and emerge with my feelings and opinions with an intensity that is surprising to others. Probably, this is the reason why my coursemates resent me and forgot all the things I've done for Parada. Once I've broken free of their manipulative grasp, suddenly, I've done nothing for Parada. However, I value relationships based on depth, authenticity, true connection, and mutual growth, so when they forced me to apologized, I apologized just to appease their feelings. And if anyone from my Fine Arts Block reads this, I'm sorry that you feel that way about me, but I regret lying by apologizing for something I never did.
I wonder if that's a sin, lying at your expense just to make other people happy. If it is, then may God forgive me for that incident. Either way, I've lost many friends in that event. I know that many have talked behind my back, and I've caught wind of those conversations. However, whatever happens, whatever they believe, call me crazy, but I still treasure them even if they don't.
Here I am standing in the crossroads, virtually alone now. Sometimes it is too hard to be trusting, but what would this world be without trust?

Defender of the Artist
Call me stupid, call me gullible, but as far as American Idol 4 and Star Wars Episode 3 are concerned, they are both great shows and are worthy of one's praise.
Oklahoma's country girl, Carrie Underwood won it all in American Idol 4. Now, people are calling the show the "worst ever" and claiming that the show is rigged. Although I would have to agree that there are other people better than Carrie Underwood in terms of performance, she is one of the better ones when it comes to the voice aspect. After all, like A.I. emphasizes over and over again, this is a singing competition. She has a great voice range, and contrary to Carrie's detractors, she can sing other styles besides country as heard in her renditions of "Trouble", "Alone" and "Angels Brought me Here." I'm even more impressed with how she handled these songs compared to her renditions of "Man, I Feel like a Woman" and "Sin Wagon."
I even wonder how they can claim that this show is rigged. They probably could only try to influence the voters' decision by overexposing contestants. However, people have their own minds and hearts to pick to decide on their own as humans are not mindless paramecia. Detractors also claim that American Idol doesn't use the audience's votes to decide the contest. When you look at it, since they don't tell the people what the exact number of votes is, they could probably pad or shave some off a contestant. Yet, American Idol is not the one who tallies the votes. All calls and texts are handled by a third-party company, meaning that there are other people besides American Idol who know what the results are. If ever A.I. puts a contestant over the other when the votes say otherwise, this third-party company may complain and use the votes as evidence against the show, or be sued for being an accomplice in a crime.
Face it, Carrie is your American Idol. More votes came her way from her fans, and probably her detractors as well. Being the winner, however, doesn't mean that she's the best among the thousands of contestants who auditioned for the show. It's like the straight A student doesn't mean that he is the best person in the class.
It's over now, and for all the fans of the other contestants who didn't make it, move on.
Star Wars Episode 3 got thumbs-down by some fans claiming that George Lucas did this just to get extra money, and didn't care about the fans by not making the movie good enough. One of the complaints is about Lucas not taking good care of his characters most especially Anakin.
Many people say that Anakin was making stupid decisions all the way especially during his fight against Obi-Wan. Common things people pointed out:
1. Why didn't Anakin use force heal to heal his wounds, or the force to push Obi-Wan to the lava when he was injured?"
My only answer is, he can't. Force heal is only found in games, and games aren't canon. Even if force heal existed, he wasn't in the right condition to use it. In games, force heal only restores a little amount of health, even in 95% condition. One couldn't control the force without his way of manipulating it. Anakin controls the force through his hands. Since it was cut off along with the other parts of his body, he can't command the force to his bidding. Controlling the force also uses up the user's strength. Compare this to Sano from Rurouni Kenshin. He can only use his technique with his right hand. When his hand is injured, his technique is gone, unlike Anji who trained himself to use the same technique with different parts of his body. Most jedi are like Sano, only able to control the force through their hands. No hands, no force manipulation, force lightning, etc.
2. Why didn't he go to higher ground during the lava scene?
Anakin was so blinded by his abilities and power that no matter what happens, he thinks that he could beat Obi-Wan anytime and survive in any condition. He viewed Obi-Wan's move to the higher ground as a retreat rather than a strategic move. As any other overly-confident person, his first instinct is to kill, and taking the offensive is the quickest way to achieve that. Defensive tactics do not live up to his expectations anymore.
Other things people complain about:
1. Mace Windu died an unfitting death.
I believe his cause of death was actually fit for a jedi of his stature. Considering that he Chancellor Palpatine beat in full power, and it took Anakin's betrayal to kill him, Mace proved that he was one of the better, if not, the best fighter among the Jedi Council. That says a lot about his abilities. Plus, Yoda had a difficult time against Palpatine to the point that Yoda believed he had failed both in cutting off Palpatine's escape, and reclaiming peace into the land.
2. Count Dooku seemed like a cameo in the movie.
This only proves a few things. Anakin's strength and skills doubled, and Dooku got a little older and slower.
3. I expected the ending.
Of course you will know the ending, if you have viewed the fourth Star Wars episode before. Added twists could complicate the story further, and may not be answerable in the episodes already released.
I loved the way Lucas showed Anakin's ongoing battle in his mind. Aside from wanting to gain respect from the Jedi Council, he just wanted to save Padme from dying of childbirth. Comparing "He must let go of things to be stronger" from Yoda, and "The dark side has the skill to save one's life from death," betrayal was the only way he could find to save his wife at that time. He wanted Palpatine alive so that in any case, he could still receive that knowledge from him. However, Mace Windu's "un-jedilike" actions of wanting to kill Palpatine triggered Anakin to turn and save the one who bears the knowledge that he needed. His killing of the younglings was only a part of Palpatine's plan to eliminate all jedis and potential ones, and to remove mercy from Anakin's heart. In his location and position, it was the most discreet thing his apprentice could do at that time considering that he had full access to that place, and all the jedi are in different parts of the galaxy. It was not because Lucas only wanted to show that Anakin is bad.
For added information, contrary to what most people perceive, Jar-jar Binks does talk in the movie. Watch the movie again, and view the scene when Anakin and Obi-Wan arrive after rescuing the chancellor.

Dude, where's my head?
I've been taking a crash course on Microsoft Outlook and COBOL for the past few days now. My brain is overflowing with information that it just shut down in the afternoon. It took solace by watching all the episodes of Happy Tree Friends (crazy place for solace.)
I think I've experienced a minor "sickness" earlier. I believe it was too much "screen time". When I went off too lunch, the surroundings looked darker than usual. Considering that I've been still taking it easy, I wonder how I will survive the next three weeks when my extreme COBOL training starts. It is intimidating, considering that the current batch undergoing COBOL training now seemingly do not take lunch or kidney breaks. It really seems tough, and I hope I don't end up forsaking my health for this training soon.
Wow, one of my comrades at work automatically got called into a project earlier, and now will be working somewhere in Ortigas even if he didn't undergo that COBOL training. I applaud him. He probably has some prior experience that the company believed he was already fit to undertake a project. Hopefully, I'll get assigned soon even if it means moving to another building again.
We celebrated my Mom's birthday in Mcdonald's along with a number of my mom's friends. Although I looked like I just came from the City Hall, or running for a congressman position due to my barong, I am happy that I could still fit in a children's party. At least, I haven't lost my kiddie side yet, even if my lovable creative side took a backseat to make way for the left-brained stuff coming in.
Tomorrow's Friday, and after 5:30 pm, I could finally rest! :)

To look forward to
Eight hours of staring at a computer screen may be bad for my eyes, but it's required since I need to have a background of Cobol and Outlook by next week. All this left-brained stuff is draining away my energy today that I felt really woozy after the day. Or probably it was due to that computer screen in front of me all day.
It was fun though. I felt like learning BASIC again, but this time with different commands and functions. Hopefully, I could surprise everyone next week by doing great in the extreme COBOL training especially since I'm the only Fine Arts Student among the group of Computer Science, and other computer-related course majors here.
Siomai Rice from Paotsin still tastes good after all these years. C2's are way overpriced here too. Their small bottle costs 28 here. I could get two bottles outside with change from that 28 pesos. Oh well.

Natapos na ang pangalawang araw ni Milo sa Accenture. Tulad ng nakaraang araw, pumasok siya na nakabihis-"yuppie" sa pagkataas-taas na gusali ng 6750. Ito na ang huling araw ng paghahanda bago tuluyang magtatrabaho siya sa kung saan man siya ilagay ng kumpanya.
Ipinaliwanag ang iba’t-ibang mga aspeto ng kumpanya. Siguridad, benepisyo at iba pa. Hinati-hati na rin sila sa kani-kanilang mga proyekto.
Nailagay si Milo sa proyektong Host Bench. Ang kanyang magiging opisina ay sa Philam Life Building sa Makati. Bahagyang nagulat siya ng mabasa niya ito sa papel na iniabot sa kanya habang ipinapaliwanag sa kanila kung anu-ano ang mga gagawin nila sa mga susunod na araw. Hindi niya alam na may opisina ng Accenture pala roon. Isa pa, sa Pasig pala ang gusali ng Unionbank of the Philippines, na noon inakala niyang nasa Makati. Hindi rin natupad ang hinihiling niya kahapon na sa GT Tower siya magtrabaho.
Ang kanyang unang gagawin simula bukas ay mag-aral ng isang bagay na wala siyang kamalay-malay, ang pag-poprogram gamit ang COBOL. Kinabahan siya at baka 'di niya ito kayanin lalo na na ang iba niyang kasama ay mga gradweyt ng mga kursong kompyuter. Baka maiwanan lang siya sa ka

Gaano Kalayo?
Nagsimula nang magtrabaho ako sa Accenture bilang Junior Software Engineer. Pinapunta nila ako sa 6750, isang pagkataas-taas na gusali kung saan nakilala ko ang ilang baguhan rin sa trabaho.
Isang pagkahaba-habang orientation ang bumati sa akin. Sa sobrang haba, itutuloy pa ito bukas.
Nabusog naman ako sa pagkain. Sumobra nga yata. Libreng pagkain at inumin. Naka-dalawang merienda at lunch ako doon. Softdrinks at juice sa lata + free-flowing coffee and water.
Nalaman ko doon na hindi pa ako permanenteng nasa 6750 magtatrabaho. Maaaring ilipat pa nila ako sa iba pang lokasyon ng Accenture. Ito marahil ang magdidikta kung may malaki at kagimbal-gimbal akong gagawin. 1/7 lang ang pag-asa nito, ngunit kung ito ang mangyayari, mukhang may ibig sabihin na ito.
Mga lokasyon sa Ortigas: Orient Square & PSE. Sa katunayan, ayoko ko sanang mapadpad muna rito. Hindi ko pa rin kasi alam ang lokasyon ng dalawang ito. Baka mawala pa ako. Wala pa ring kasama.

Puwede rin actually sa Unionbank of the Philippines. Kung tama ang pagkaalala ko, doon iyon sa SSS Bldg, sa corner ayala and Rufino. Malapit kay Migs sa Rada, at apat na gusali lang ang kailangang lakarin.
Itatapon ko itong napakaliit na pag-asa sa hangin. Sana pagbigyan lang niya ako sa aking mumunting hiling.
